About Us

H&H began operation in the spring of 1992.  The company was founded by Rick and Marcia Hartman.  In its infancy H&H operated as a steel sales and brokerage firm.  Rick and Marcia developed a sales and distribution network covering Michigan and as far away as Canada and Mexico.  First year revenue neared the one million dollar mark and it soon became apparent that there was a need to expand to include warehousing and steel processing.

In September of 1993 H&H was relocated to a 10,000 sq/ft warehouse suitable for storing and processing steel coils.  The first piece of equipment was a used 36” slitter, retooled and re-built to slit narrow, camber critical coil product for the HVAC industry.  We quickly developed a reputation for delivering high quality slit coil products and began toll processing for large service centers.  Sales grew quickly and another narrow slitter was added to keep up with demand.

In 1996 continued growth allowed us to relocate into a 40,000 sq/ft facility.  The addition of a 60” and 48” slitter as well as a cut-to-length line and sheering equipment greatly enhanced our capabilities.  For the next several years we established footholds in the local automotive and office furniture industries.

The turn of the century brought tremendous growth fueling the need for more people and more room.  Second generation family member JR Hartman joined H&H in the fall of 2003.  In 2004 we added another 20,000 sq/ft to our facility and replaced the aging 60” slitter with a new dual-head 60” slitter with in-line leveling greatly enhancing our capabilities, efficiency, and quality.

Since that last building expansion, we have continued to invest in the business.  Installing a new 60” cut-to-length line, adding a cold reduction mill, updating lighting and machine controls software and hardware.  We are well positioned to handle growth while achieving our goal of being our customer’s best steel supplier.

In 2022, 30 years after Rick and Marcia started H&H, 2nd generation family member JR Hartman purchased the business and continues their legacy as president and CEO of H&H Metal Source.

A family company with three generations managing daily operations.
